“Comprehensive care is required for all cancer patients. Both, a core team of Oncologists and allied teams are required. Not only is cure required, but a decrement in adverse events is also very important.” Dr Kumar Prabhash, Professor and Head of the medical oncology department at Tata Memorial Hospital Mumbai, stated this at the inauguration of the Mapusa Centre at Vision Multispecialty Hospital.
“The prevalence of cancer is growing in Goa,” Dr Chandrakant Shetye is quoted as stating in a news release. From 1990 to 2016, the incidence rate increased from 52.5 to 97 per 100,000, according to statistics provided by the ‘India State-Level Disease Burden Initiative Cancer Collaborators.’ As a result, it is critical to combat cancer. Our goal at the childcare facility at Vision Hospital will be to cure cancer while maintaining the quality of life.”
On Sunday, Dr Kumar Prabhash, Professor and Head of Medical Oncology at Tata Memorial Hospital in Mumbai, officially opened the facility in the presence of Dr Chandrakant Shetye, Dr Bhagyashree Shetye, Dr Ashay Karpe, Dr Bharat Bhosale, Mr Girish Korde, Dr Vijay Sharnangat and Dr Pawan Rane.
While inaugurating the Mapusa Centre at Vision Multispecialty Hospital, Dr Kumar Prabhash shared important statistics related to cancer in Goa. He mentioned that the common cancers in Goa, according to crude death rates, are stomach cancer, breast cancer and pharynx cancer. He said, “there is a lack of published registry data from Goa. However, in accordance with the ICMR report, 2021 – 7.9% of all cancers are childhood cancers. The most common are leukaemia, lymphoma, bone and soft tissue tumours, central nervous system tumours, renal tumours and retinoblastoma.”
According to the Sunrise Oncology Center team of Dr Ashay Karpe, Dr Bharat Bhosale, Dr Vijay Sharnangat and Girish Korde, “the focus of Sunrise Oncology Center across all its centres is to focus on comprehensive cancer care. They said that two aspects are critical for any treatment – treatment access and experience while taking the treatment.
The risk of cancer is rising every day as a result of changing food choices and lifestyles. Not only do we need experienced doctors, but we also need to cut the time spent waiting for consultations and other associated formalities, which waste crucial time for cancer patients. The fundamental goal of the hospital is to improve its ability to regulate patient flow and ensure long-term growth in cancer care.
