World Anesthesia Day – Every Patient Matters

Anesthetic is a very tricky branch. Many people don't know the importance of anesthetic. Today, 16th October 2020, I would like to wish all anesthetists out there a very happy World Anesthesia Day.

We are the warriors fighting behind the scenes. The captain of the ship or pilot of the aero plane in the operation theatre.

The anesthetists are the eyes in the operation theatre to see that all things go well. They look after the patients, the surgeon and the staff during a surgery.

Today, anesthesiologists' roles extend far beyond that includes the following:

  • Being part of the pre-hospital emergency response team.
  • Aiding in patient resuscitation in the emergency department.
  • Running the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), handling everything from snakebite victims to comatose patients.
  • Acute and chronic as well as cancer pain relief via specialized pain centers.
  • Providing sedation and anesthesia outside the operation theatre (Radiological procedures, Endoscopies and so on).

In this pandemic the role of anesthetic has been appreciated as we are working as intensivists in ICU.

We are working hard in the theatre and in ICU for better and safe patient care.

The science and art of Anesthesia has evolved and advanced at a rapid pace to the present day scenario, where the anesthetist’s role is not just limited to the time of surgery, but has permeated into the fields of pain control, palliative care, critical/intensive care and is still constantly evolving.
